Xbox is turning 20 this year. I know, how crazy is that? I owe my love for gaming to Xbox, and I can still remember the day I got the Original Xbox and just being immersed from the moment I turned on my CRT TV. Xbox has had so many amazing originals over the years, but I decided to put together 5 of my favorites. All these games have a place in my heart, and I’m sure they do in yours as well. If one of your favorite games isn’t on here, please share your top 5 Xbox exclusives from the past 20 years down in the comments. I would love to know what stuck with you throughout these past 20 years of amazing gaming.
5) Fable III
Out of all the lists I have seen on the top Xbox exclusives out there, I rarely saw Fable. This blows my mind since this game was truly one of the best I have ever play and I started playing it way later than I ever should have. As a kid, I was a Halo fanatic, as you will see further down the list, but I heard a lot about how fable was an amazing game. With most of my time spent split screening with my brother in halo, I never got around to playing it as a kid. Once I saw it on Xbox Game Pass, I knew I had to pick it up.
Fable is a fantastic all-around game. From its exciting fantasy story to its excellent mechanics and combat, even its funny banter and jokes make the game ten times better. I genuinely wish I played this as a kid because the game was that good. Now with Fable 4 in the talks of coming out soon, I’m excited to jump into the world of Fable, and I cant wait to see a game like this in 4k. Let’s hope they bring us the chicken suit in 4k.
The Original Halo is the reason why I’m a die-hard Xbox fan. If you come to our site often, you will notice quite a bit of Xbox content and me ranting about how great Xbox Game Pass is. Not to say I don’t love PlayStation, it’s just Xbox will always be special to me, and that is because of Bungie’s Halo. This Masterpiece paved the way for FPS and is still going strong after 20 years as a franchise.
Nothing was better than coming home from school and racing my brother upstairs to start playing Halo, whether it was the story mode or just going One Vs. One with the split-screen. There was just something special about it. Once Xbox live came out a year later, it got even better. I still remember begging my mom to pay $10 a month to play with my friends online who literally lived down the street from me and could just come over. The Original Halo will always have a special place in my heart, but it is not my #1.
3)Sea of Thieves
Sea of Thieves took a while to grow on me as it did for many people who now thoroughly enjoy this game. Obviously, it took a while to gain traction with its rocky start, but once a couple of updates rolled out, it developed into a masterpiece. I personally have always been interested in Pirates from the time I was a little kid until now. And to have a game that can give you such a hands-on pirate experience, all with comedic relief, is just incredible.
The best part about this game is enjoying it with friends. It’s the ultimate grab your crew and have a good time type of game. With so many things like completing a quest to drinking at the tavern to even role-playing and making people walk the plank, this game has so many ways to have a good time with your friends.
2)Forza Horizon 4
Even though I am not a big car guy, Forza Horizon 4 is still one of the most fun games I have ever played. There is no better feeling than having the freedom of an open map with some of the coolest cars in the world. Hitting that turn at the perfect apex and speeding off in the sunset warms your whole body. The best part about this game, as for almost all Xbox games, is the community. The amount of time and effort some people in the Forza community put in on designing their cars and taking photos is amazing.
Forza Horizon is one of those games that never gets old. As long as they keep updating it with new races and challenges, you can roam the streets until the day you put the sticks down for good. That being said, it is the gaming world, so there will most likely be a new Forza Horizon 5 soon, meaning a new map and new cars. I can’t wait to see what this next one will bring, but until then, I am happy to roam the streets of Forza Horizon 4.
My all-time favorite game from Xbox, and my favorite game ever is Halo 3. This game sealed the deal on making Halo the greatest gaming franchise to ever exist, at least in my eyes. As a young teenager, I spent all my time doing 3 things. Going to school, basketball, and playing Halo 3. This game took up so much of my free time it was ridiculous, and I don’t regret it one bit. From the long nights grinding on Multiplayer to be the best to trying to make funny videos like the crew over at rooster teeth with my friends. (we failed miserably, but it was still fun.)
Even with all the fun I had in multiplayer, the most fun came from the campaign. Playing the campaign with my brother on what we thought would be the Last Halo ever to be released was the best. I still remember the most epic closing mission as you are driving your warthog and escaping explosions to destroy the flood. After the mission was finished, you are left to wonder if Master Chief will live to fight another day or was he dead. Bungie did a great job leaving the door open for future games with its final scene of Master Chief’s ship heading to an unknown planet.
The only thing I wish for Halo is that Bungie would have continued the amazing work they created. Even to this day, I get the chills just thinking about the final scene in Halo 3. I have no issues with 343 Industries because they have continued the Halo franchise and have done a great job. But nothing will ever compare to the work Bungie did when it comes to the greatest franchise of all.
Here’s to another 20 years
With Xbox releasing so many amazing games in the past 20 years, I can say these 5 were truly the most influential on me. With the amount of work Xbox has put In the last 20 years, I am excited to see what is next. Especially with Xbox Game Pass out there and all Xbox exclusive coming out on Xbox Game Pass on day one. I’m sure with all these upcoming games, this list will change down the road. Until then, I hope you felt similar in my choices, and if you have Xbox Game Pass, give some of them a try if you haven’t already.
