YouTube TV Arrives on PS5/Roku’s battle with Google

With YouTube TV being available on an array of devices, it was only a matter of time that it would be coming to PlayStation. Android Police was the first to notice that this service was available on the PS5 by seeing it on the supported devices list for YouTube TV. If you aren’t aware of YouTube TV yet, it is a streaming service that allows you to watch live TV on multiple devices, including consoles.

This announcement comes just in time of the YouTube TV app being removed from Roku. Now, don’t worry if you stream YouTube TV through your Roku. If you have the app downloaded, you can still watch all your favorite channels through the app. This will only affect newcomers or anyone who deletes the app since it is no longer available for download in the Roku store.

Google Get’s the Upper Hand

In an even more recent article from IGN, Google has found a so-called loophole to get its Roku customers to access its live TV streaming service. Google will be pushing out a new feature on its original YouTube app (not to mistake it for its YouTube TV app) to get you access to YouTube TV. This feature was something they were planning to release on all platforms but has pushed it out for Roku early to fight this very public battle. Does it seem like YouTube is fighting fair? In some sense, no, but the only way Roku could fight this is by getting rid of YouTube from its app list altogether, and everyone knows that would not be good for them.

Hopefully, these two platforms can find a way to end all this peacefully, but it’s looking like Roku might need to throw in the towel. Luckily for anyone with a PS5 or any other platforms located on this list, you won’t have to worry about not being able to watch YouTube TV.
